class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>Bezesteni, was the name of a covered fabric and textile market in Larissa during the time period of the Ottoman Empire. It still stands on the highest point of the the ancient acropolis of Larissa\u2018s hill, also known as Frourion and its construction dates around the late 15th and early 16th century. It probably substituted the Byzantine citadel after the City\u2019s fall to the Ottomans.<\/p><p>The name Bezesteni means textile market and it derives from the Arabic word meaning bez meaning &#8220;made of cotton&#8221; and the word bezzaz word meaning &#8220;cloth merchant&#8221;.<\/p><p>Its design and architecture are based on the architecture of mosques. Nowadays only the south entrance is preserved,the rest of them were bricked. Its vaulting consisted of six arches and a mud-brick exterior, covered with lead, to prevent erosion caused by moisture. Inside there were 21 shops all of them covered with tiles. On it \u2019s north side there was an entrance leading to a small room (3.5 over 4.5 meters). This entrance\u2018s door that was covered with iron.<\/p><p>It is assumed that this space was the treasury, in which the fortunes of the region\u2018s wealthiest inhabitants were kept and it also
